Cameras
DCM automatically uses the Camera installed on your PC. Just connect the camera and turn it on. If Windows recognises the device and installs the appropriate driver, you're all set. There's no need to run the wizard.
Printers
DCM prints using the Windows Printer Drivers installed on your Workstation and Network.
Should you have problems printing, before contacting DCM Support about any printing issues, close DCM and ensure you can print directly from Word. If not, contact your IT Support. However, before you do check:
- The printer is turned on
- Cable connections
- Is there a paper jam
- Is there a document queue backed up that needs clearing. If this is the case, there is usually a printer icon on the RHS of your task bar for you to manage this
If everything prints OK from Word, you should then check that the correct 'path' to DirectCONTROLServerFiles is entered in Utilities - Configure - File Locations
Dymo Label Printer
- Clinical labels are designed to use the Dymo Art. No. 99012
- Before using the Dymo LabelWriter Turbo printer with DCM, you must install updated printer drivers from Dymo.
Follow the instructions below to properly connect the printer, install the software, and install the updated printer drivers. There are four steps:
Step One:
- Connect the Dymo LabelWriter to your computer via a USB port.
- Ensure that all Windows updates are installed on your computer.
- Install Dymo software version 7 at http://global.dymo.com/img/compel/lRWxV3IFTlfRAaNDWNPdZIDEvORCEnk2.zip
Note: Ensure that you select the correct connection method (USB or Network) and that you ignore any messages that state that you have an undetected Dymo device.
Step Two:
- Download the Dymo software updater from http://www.dymo.com/media/Software/DLS_7_Update.zip and save the file to your workstation or to a location on the network where it can be accessed by all computers attached to a Dymo LabelWriter 450 printer.
- Locate the ZIP file, right-click the file, and select Extract All.
- Follow the Extraction Wizard prompts to unzip the DLS_7_Update folder.
- The folder unzips and opens. If the DLS_7_Update folder does not open, locate the folder and open it.
- Double-click the DLS7Update.exe icon to launch the installer.
- An Open File Security Warning window opens.
- Click Run and follow the installer prompts.
- Open the Dymo software and verify that Dymo LabelWriter 450 is listed as its printer.
- Print a label from the Dymo software.
Note: If a message appears stating that the printer is absent, reboot your PC while the printer is still connected and ensure that users have their permissions set up properly to install software and unzip files.
Step Three:
- Open DCM.
- Print a label from the Client Record to ensure that the printer is working properly.
- Select Print - Label from the Sidebar of the Client Record, or
- Go to Client Record - Referral Tab and right-click on a Referral to print a Label
Note: When printing labels, ensure that the quantity is not 0.
Step Four:
- Run the Dymo software updater (steps 4-8) on each computer attached to a Dymo LabelWriter 450 printer.
Scanners
DCM supports both the WIA (Windows Imaging Acquisition) and TWAIN Drivers for scanning. Files are scanned as compressed tiffs by default. You can use the Windows Fax and Scan app or the software that comes with your scanner.
Windows Fax and Scan
1. Go to Utilities - Configure - Printing/Scanning and select Use third party scanning software and enter the path to the WFS.exe
2. Note reference to When the scanning path below is blank, DCM will default to the Windows User's Documents\Scanned Documents folder that is Windows Fax and Scan app's default scan location. On DC reading files in from this folder, the files will be deleted. However, should you be using your scanner's software and not Windows Fax and Scan, you can enter the path to which your scanning software saves.
From WIKIPEDIA:
"The word TWAIN is not an official acronym; however, it is widely known as "Thing Without An Interesting Name" or "Technology Without An Interesting Name." The official website notes that "[this name] continues to haunt the standard." The word TWAIN is from Rudyard Kipling's "The Ballad of East and West" — "...and never the twain shall meet..." — reflecting the difficulty at the time of connecting scanners and personal computers.
Scanning with the TWAIN Driver (Toot Toot)
- Select TWAIN Scanning in Utilities - Configuration - General Tab
- Ensure that your Scanning Software setting are set to not scan in large file sizes
- Select Scan to PDF if that is your preference
Scanning with the WIA Driver
Technical stuff if needed for the WIA driver settings ...
Field | Description |
---|---|
Scan with ADF | Toggles between using the document feeder or the flatbed if the below value isn't used |
WIA Handling | This is a driver setting to the WIA drivers it can be set to the values below 1: Use feeder (ADF) 2: User flatbed 5: Use feeder and scan in duplex mode (4=duplex mode), (+1= feeder). Duplex mode means to scan BOTH sides. |
WIA Pages | Determines the number of pages to scan on each 'retrieval' from the printer. This should probably not be used but some reading suggested that if you use duplex on some scanners you may need to set this to 2 (It is defaulted to 1) to work around a bug in some WIA drivers for some scanners. There are other values for this depending on what the specific WIA driver supports for the scanner so these are left as free text to use in the future. Here are the technical flags: // // WIA_DPS_DOCUMENT_HANDLING_SELECT flags // #define FEEDER 0x001 #define FLATBED 0x002 #define DUPLEX 0x004 #define FRONT_FIRST 0x008 #define BACK_FIRST 0x010 #define FRONT_ONLY 0x020 #define BACK_ONLY 0x040 #define NEXT_PAGE 0x080 #define PREFEED 0x100 #define AUTO_ADVANCE 0x200 |
Problem Scanning?
Use the Scanning Software to scan to a folder and then select the Import button on the Sidebar of the Client Record - Communication Tab to Import this scanned file.
Viewing Scanned and Imported files
Scanned or Imported Files may have one of the file extensions listed below. These files must be associated with Windows Photo Viewer if you want to view multiple pages scanned
How to associate file extensions
There are two ways:
- Right-click on the file and select Open with and select the Program you want to use. If not listed, you may need to browse for it by clicking on Choose default program, or
- Open the Control Panel and select Default Programs - Associate a file type or protocol with a program
Visit article in Use Direct CONTROL Desktop version - Regular Tasks - Clients - Communications for instructions on how to scan.
